Sensei Mark Burgess
Winner of the 1996 World Uechi-Ryu
Championship in kumite (sparring), Sensei Mark
Burgess brings 20 years of experience to his
classes. He has earned his 5th degree Black
Belt and the rank of Godan.
Sensei Burgess teaches traditional Uechi-Ryu
karate, which is a combination of the Tiger,
Crane, and Dragon forms of Kungfu. Sensei
Burgess also infuses techniques from various
other martial arts including Shodokan Karate
and White Dragon Kungfu for a broad
understanding of self-defense techniques.
The Academy is registered with the Nova Scotia
Karate Association, which allows students to
compete regionally, provincially, and nationally.
Sensei Stacey French
Sensei Stacey French has been of member of
the Burgess Uechi-Ryu Karate Academy for 8
years and, as an instructor, for the last 6
years. Sensei French has her 1st degree Black
Belt and has competed in numerous
competitions across the province, winning
medals for kata, sets, and sparring.
In addition to being a Karate instructor, Sensei
French is also a fitness instructor, having
taught classes for the Kentville Karate
Academy, Acadia University, New Minas
Recreation, and Body Image Fitness.
